WINCHESTER school children have returned from London triumphant after scooping the main prize at a special media awards.
Pupils from Osborne School, which is aimed at children with special needs, launched a new magazine back in April called #Osborne, designed and edited by the children.
Their accomplishment saw them awarded the Harrison Cup at a glamorous awards ceremony earlier this month, as part of the national Shine School Media Awards, as well as two awards for high commendation and a cheque for £1,000.
Simon Heffer, newspaper columnist and awards judge said: “We were particularly impressed with the creativity as well as the humour demonstrated by the pupils as well as the support provided by the teachers at Osborne School.”
The awards aim to promote excellence across media and design in education.
Osborne pupil Thomas Williams was one of the children nominated in the outstanding pupil category.
“We want every school to have a magazine like ours,” he said. “We’re currently working on issue 2. It’s looking pretty cool.”
