EIGHTY-nine per cent of council tenants in the Winchester district are satisfied with their service, a survey has found.

The city council asked 1,350 general needs and 545 sheltered tenants what they thought of their properties, with 817 responses.

It showed that 89 per cent of tenants are happy, with 85 per cent satisfaction by the quality of the home, 89 per cent the neighbourhood, 86 per cent value for money and 81 per cent for repairs and maintenance.

Only 65 per cent were happy with the service providing value for money, and 66 per cent felt views are listened to.

Chief housing officer Richard Botham told cabinet housing committee: "I was concerned as to whether satisfaction would remain the same but as you can see it has increased to 89 per cent.

"We do need to learn from what the survey tells us."

Committee chair Cllr Caroline Horrill said: "It's testimony to just how dedicated the team are."
