RESIDENTS are complaining after around 100 phone lines in Winchester have been 'cut off' for more than two weeks.

Some people are also unable to access the internet in streets off Romsey Road, including Woodfield Drive and Kilham Lane.

It is believed to have started on June 11 and be down to a broken cable in Romsey Road and residents were told work would start on Tuesday (June 23).

Sandie Vining, 66, retired, of Woodfield Drive, said: "It's awful. There's been no communication.

"The way BT have handled it is total rubbish. I want to raise awareness of the plight. There's vulnerable people left cut off and nobody knows what is going on."

A spokesperson for BT, when asked about residents' complaints and what work is being done, said: "A faulty underground cable has affected service in the Romsey Road area.

"The repair work is extremely complex and time-consuming and also requires traffic lights for the work to be carried out safely.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused, Openreach engineers are working as fast as they can to restore service as soon as possible.

"There are around 20 reported faults."
