KINGS Worthy is set to come alive with flashes of colour as a charity race gets underway.

Wacky Races, which sees competitors build their own four-wheeled carts, returns to the village for the seventh year on Sunday (JUNE 28).

It is run by A Better Life, which fundraises to improve the lives of people in the UK and Mongolia.

This year's proceeds will go to Palm Brown Ward at Southampton General Hospital, which cares for children with leukaemia and takes them on family theatre trips to London.

Liza Bowers Stroud, one of the organisers and owners of the charity, said they have taken the ward under their wing.

"It's amazing and something we thought we could fundraise for," she said.

"The race has really taken off. The generosity of the local people is brilliant. I stand at the gate with my yellow bucket collecting donations, and people put in £5 or £10. It's just amazing."

More than 200 people are expected to descend on Bull Farm, opposite the King Charles pub, and it is hoped over £2,000 will be raised.

This year there will also be food, Pimms and sweets available.
