A MEMORIAL tree dedicated to a Winchester man who died last year has been destroyed by vandals.

Family and friends took to social media to appeal for help from residents who may have seen anything on June 11, near Abbey Gardens where the tree was planted.

The tree was placed in memory of Jack Thomas who died aged 21 last year.

The formerly seven-and-a-half foot tall tree, which had blossomed in the last few weeks, was reduced to little more than a stump and the adjoining green plaque was forcibly loosened, according to the Facebook post.

The police have been notified but have so far not provided any updates.
