NICK Watts is staying in the Southern One South & West next season after switching camps from Sholing to AFC Totton.

The 24-year-old, whose goal at Eastbourne famously helped fire Sholing to the 2014 FA Vase final where he was an unused sub, becomes the second wideman to have joined the Stags this summer, following Mike Gosney into the Testwood Stadium.

Totton boss Steve Hollick said: “This is a fantastic signing for the club and will mean we have real width and lots of pace in the team next year.

“I know the supporters will love seeing Nick flying up the right wing.”

Watts, a former Portsmouth trainee, was in his second stint at Sholing, having rejoined them in 2013 after spells with Winchester City and Folland Sports.

Hollick got to know him when he played with his brother Luke Watts at neighbouring Totton & Eling.

“Nick used to come along to watch Luke when he was still at Pompey, so I’ve known him a long time,” the Stags boss explained.

“We’ve had a look at Nick a fair bit over the years and he will give us nice balance.

“It’s good to get someone in who’s not been with the club before. For us to kick on we need a few new faces.

“Pre-season starts on Tuesday and we will be looking at a few players to see if they’re up to the Southern League standard. But we know Nick, he’s not someone we needed to have a look at, so when we found out he was available we seized the opportunity to sign him.”

It offers Watts the chance to stay at Southern League level now that Sholing have been demoted back to the Sydenhams Premier Division for ground grading reasons.
