FRANK Turner, Winchester’s most famous rock ‘n’ roll son, is set to headline a festival near his home village after revealing the title of his upcoming sixth album.

Positive Songs For Negative People is a work of defiance and “picking yourself up when you’re down” the Meonstoke-born singer wrote on his Facebook page.

And he will return to the village to headline Meonfest, in nearby East Meon on June 27. He was booked by his mother, who still lives in the area.

Positive Songs For Negative People will be his first album since 2013’s Tape Deck Heart – and the folk-rock troubadour has promised more electric guitar than in previous efforts.

He has already plugged in for the album’s first single, Get Better, released in March.

"A proper release date, full artwork, singles and videos will all be coming your way very soon,” Frank added. “For now, keep your eyes peeled for news of some US live shows landing imminently."

Tickets and details of Meonfest are available at meonfest.org.uk.

Fans can also see the singer-songwriter at Reading and Leeds festivals in August, where he will make a record-breaking ninth consecutive appearance.
