WITH ivy-wrapped tables, smiling jesters and traditional hats adorning every head, Winchester residents gathered for an evening of archaic entertainment.
The medieval banquet held at the Great Hall - one of the most anticipated events of the calendar - is the culmination of the Mayor of Winchester's fundraising events over the last 12 months.
Cllr Eileen Berry, the city's 815th mayor, was surrounded by 90 friends and well-wishers to enjoy a spot of ball juggling and knife-throwing while engorging in a three-course hog roast.
Grace was sung in Latin before the harpsichord was played and the jesters performed before the mayor's guests.
City and county councillors were mesmerised by singers striking medieval notes which filled the stain-glass windowed hall, beneath the iconic Round Table.

Cllr Berry said: “This building deserves the wonderful people that have supported this event.
“This hasn't been easy to achieve,” she added. “My committee has worked tirelessly and I can't praise them enough. I have worked behind the scenes but they have worked non-stop to arrange this beautiful venue. I have tried to raise awareness as far as I could and I think I've done a bit to help my charities, with the wonderful support from all these people.
“I've got to thank the head of Hampshire County Council, Roy Perry, Nick Bell, Ronnie Davis, actor and compare Iain Steel and the choreographer Sonia Carver.”
