THIS is the sight of community choirs coming together for a special performance at a Winchester school.

The choral concert, aptly named Ahoy!, saw more than 300 singers fill the performing arts hall at St Swithun's School with sea shanties and Tudor tunes telling the story of the Mary Rose.

Singers from the senior and junior sections of the school were joined by school staff and parents, the Hampshire County Youth and Alresford Community choirs.

Music by Alexander L'Estrange featured in the concert.

The title piece was conducted by St Swithun's director of music YiRu Hall, who said: “They all performed with great energy and the sound created in the hall was electrifying.

“I am so thrilled with how it all came together with singers aged nine to 90 enjoying making music together.”
