VISITORS to Winchester’s zoo will be in for a treat this Easter with the arrival of three new meerkat pups.
Born to mum Macbeth and dad Choggy, the triplets are the newest arrival for Marwell Zoo who have been cared for underground until now.
As they turn a few weeks old they have begun to dig out of their burrows to explore their new surroundings.
Over the next few weeks, as their confidence grows, they will spend more and more time outside learning the ropes from their parents.
Marc Fox, team leader for carnivores, said: “All three pups are doing really well. They are eating well and finding their feet quickly thanks to their older siblings. Mum and Dad are experienced parents and are remaining calm but protective.”
The new arrivals have three siblings, Jaspar, Bella and Rosilee, who were born in July last year and will take on the baby-sitting role with their parents as they teach them to play and forage.
Guests can find the new brood of meerkats on the Back Lawn enclosure behind Marwell Hall.
