FOLLAND Sports dropped out of the Sydenhams Premier top six after suffering their fourth defeat on the bounce.

But while losing 1-0 at second-placed Moneyfields was another setback for the Planemakers, it was the high number of bookings – eight in all – and a turned-down penalty for Follands that most got under the skin of assistant manager Dave Lewis.

Matt Burt, Calum Brockway, Ashley Jarvis, Jamie Barron and Wayne Boud all saw yellow for the visitors, while Moneys’ trio Jack Lee, Tom Chapman and Steve Hutchings also went into Poole referee Chris Arkless’s notebook.

A terrific second-half strike by Moneys’ Jake Raine settled the issue, but Lewis said: “When you go into the bar afterwards it shouldn’t be the referee who dominates the conversation, it should be the players.

“Moneyfields are not bad people, they’re good people and our players are good people too, yet there have been eight people booked for nothing.

“Moneyfields’ goal was a great strike worthy of winning any game but, from our point of view, we felt we did enough to get a draw. But, at 1-0 down, Burty has taken a touch in the box and their player’s kicked him, completely accidentally, but it was a stonewall penalty.

“The ref’s booked two of our lads (for arguing) and all the Moneyfields’ players were rolling around laughing.

“The game’s been ruined for both teams and ultimately it’s cost us a point.”

After losing two and drawing one of their previous three league encounters, it was a match Moneyfields desperately needed to win to keep leaders Petersfield Town within touching distance.

It also opened a nine-point gap over third-placed Winchester City, who were without a game on Saturday but return to action at home to Follands tonight (Tuesday).

City have three games in hand over Moneys who visit the Denplan City Ground this Friday (7.45pm). In a bid to draw in a bumper crowd, admission has been reduced to £5 for adults and free for students, children under 16 and all other concessions.
