AS he reached for the unequivocally high notes of Ding Dong Merrily On High, one Winchester boy’s family looked on with pride.

Pilgrims student, 12-year-old Teddy Ridley, proudly followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Adam and great-uncle Simon as he took the reins as the head chorister for this year’s Cathedral Christmas Carol Concert.

The year 8 pupil has been singing for four years and said he’s thrilled at being chosen as the choir’s lead.

“It feels really good,” he said. “I’m keeping it in the family! They were really pleased, they were just amazed really."

The choir master, Andrew Lumsden, said Teddy was a good choice for the role.

“He’s got a great way with the boys,” he said. “The head has to keep them in check and he does that very well.”
