MONEYFIELDS assistant boss Graeme Gee is looking forward to seeing arguably the two best strike forces in the Sydenhams Premier Division going head to head at Dover Road tonight.

Prolific Moneys’ duo Steve Hutchings (2) and Alfie Rutherford were both on target in Saturday’s 4-0 victory at Brockenhurst, which kept the Portsmouth outfit four points clear at the summit.

This evening the prolific pair will come face to face with Winchester City’s prized partnership of Warren Bentley and Zach Glasspool who, between them, have banked 45 Wessex goals this term – six fewer than the deadly Moneyfields’ duo.

With Moneys already 4-0 up at Brockenhurst, where Tom Chapman was also on target, manager Miles Rutherford withdrew the league’s 33-goal top scorer Hutchings at half-time – not so much to save him for the Winchester game, but more to prevent him from picking up his 15th booking of the season and triggering a three-match ban.

Bentley, last season’s Wessex golden boot winner, didn’t feature at all for Winchester in Saturday’s excellent 2-0 win at AFC Portchester, allowing him more time to recover from an ankle problem that has sidelined him for two games.

Gee, who is fully expecting Bentley to bounce back for tonight’s big first-versus-fourth showdown, said: “It’ll be interesting to see the strike pairings of our lads and their lads. They’re probably the best two partnerships in the league and I’m looking forward to seeing how each individual plays.

“We’re top, but we’re not getting ideas above our station. We know it’s not going to be an easy game tonight, but we’ve got a couple of strikers who are in form and have been for most of the season.”

In Bentley’s absence, ex-Eastleigh youngster Geoff Dunn buried Winchester’s 55th-minute opener at Portchester and then crossed for Glasspool to wrap up the points 12 minutes later.

“It was another good result for us and we played well and worked hard on what was a bit of a pudding of a pitch,” said City boss Masters.

“There was a pitch inspection at 11am and, to be honest, I don’t think the game should have been played – but now I’m glad it was!”

Winchester’s win was doubly pleasing considering they had Adam Roberts and Luke Dempsey suspended, Bentley and Danilo Cadete injured and Dom Cope unavailable.

“Young Geoff (Dunn) is coming of age and he’s a really good footballer,” said Masters. “But being without Warren is a bit of a nightmare no matter how good someone like Geoff is.

“At the end of the day, though, it’s all about squads at this time of year and the lads have done brilliantly. Off the ball, we’re a lot harder to play against and I feel a lot happier about the whole squad. I’m confident we’ll be in the mix at the end of the season.”

Cope, Roberts, Dempsey and, hopefully, Bentley will all be back tonight but question marks remain over Cadete, a recent arrival from Blackfield & Langley, who took a kick on the knee playing for the reserves last Thursday.

Moneyfields still have a lengthy injury list including Dougie Rowe, George Way, Dean Arnold, Russell Rackley and Jamie Hore, while Jake Morgan is approaching the end of a nine-match ban.
