A SECOND woman has died following a road traffic collision near Winchester.

Police were called to the incident near Sutton Scotney when two vehicles collided at the junction of the A30 and the A272 this morning.

The middle-aged woman was pronounced dead and her next-of-kin informed.

Her passenger was taken to hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The second vehicle contained two people: a middle-aged man who was driving, as well as a young boy, both of whom received injuries that were non-life threatening.

Some fourteen firefighters attended the scene at the A30 which has been shut in both directions near Sutton Scotney, between Stockbridge Road (A34) and Martins Lane, as well as the B3420Winchester Road, since 6.30am.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 6.25am to a road traffic collision at Sutton Scotney.

“We sent two ambulance crews and one hazardous area response team as well as three ambulance officers and one crew from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.”

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “We can confirm police were called at 6.25am this morning to a road traffic collision in Sutton Scotney.

“Two vehicles were involved in a collision near the junction of the A30 and the A272. At least two people have received serious, life-threatening, injuries.

“Road closures are in place while police examine the collision scene. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.”
