JOHN Robson is calling for his Blackfield & Langley side to do “100 per cent better” in the FA Vase at Gang Warily tomorrow.

The Watersiders were woeful in Tuesday’s 4-0 Hampshire FA Senior Cup defeat by Winchester City, leaving ample scope for improvement against Highworth Town in tomorrow’s last-64 tie.

A Warren Bentley hat-trick and an Adam ‘Taz’ Roberts strike put an end to Blackfield’s county cup hopes and Robson has warned that any repeat will signal curtains in the Vase.

“Winchester were by far the better side and deserved their win. We had nothing to offer them in return and were beaten fair and square on the night,” he said.

“We were second best in ability, effort and playing football and we need to improve 100 per cent tomorrow.

“We had a good enough side out to compete against Winchester, but I threw a few young lads in and we’ll hopefully have a better squad to choose for the Vase game.

“Danny Young didn’t play on Tuesday and I ended up playing Jake Rowley on the right of midfield which isn’t his position.”

Young may still be struggling with injury tomorrow and, to add to Robson’s problems, Hugh Dathan and ex-Saint Kevin Gibbens limped off with groin trouble on Tuesday. There are also question marks over Michael Durdey’s availability.

Prior to the Winchester defeat, Blackfield, currently fourth in the Sydenhams Premier, had reeled off five league and cup wins on the bounce and were unbeaten since October 11.

Tomorrow’s visitors Highworth are ninth in the Hellenic Premier and have lost just one of their last six in all competitions.

The Wiltshire outfit overcame Trevor Senior’s Bridport 3-0 in the last round of the Vase to go their furthest ever in the competition, while Blackfield triumphed by an identical scoreline over Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
