FOLLAND Sports have leapfrogged Winchester City into sixth place in the Sydenhams Premier Division after a slender 1-0 win at Andover Town last night.

The only goal of the game arrived on eight minutes when skipper Jamie Barron floated a free kick into the area and the towering figure of Matt Burt headed home.

It takes the Planemakers onto 35 points, nine adrift of league leaders Moneyfields with three games in hand.

“Ours was the only league game of the evening and it was important to get ourselves into the leading pack,” said manager Danny Bowers.

“Credit to Andover, they’re a young, hard-working side who ran and ran for their manager and tried to stop us playing football.

“Scoring so early was our demise really because we just sat back and let them come at us in the first half.

“We were brighter in the second half and both Ashley Jarvis and Nathan Lynch hit the woodwork.

“I said to the lads on the way up that I’d be happy with a 1-0. That’s two clean sheets in four days and it sets us up nicely for a tough fixture at Horndean on Saturday.”

Both Barron and Lynch are unavailable for the Horndean trip, but Ryan Long returns after midweek work commitments.
