FRENCH travellers who have lived in a Winchester car park for a week are set to be removed.

Six caravans were set up in Cattle Market car park, in Worthy Lane, last Monday.

But the family of 22, including 10 children, are set to return home after police and city council officials asked them to leave.

The family spoke very little English but one traveller, Porardo Gorjan, told the Hampshire Chronicle that they were “sad” to be removed.

“We’re moving back to France,” he said, adding that the family encountered “no trouble” with commuters or residents during their stay.

Police will remove the group on Wednesday, he said.

It comes just weeks after a group of travellers were removed from St Catherine’s Park and Ride.
