INTERNATIONAL star of stage and screen Vanessa Redgrave is appearing at Southampton’s Nuffield Theatre to raise funds for a local charity.

It is her third one-night show in aid of Southampton and Winchester Visitors’ Group which befriends destitute asylum seekers and refugees living locally.

Tickets are now on sale for the evening called ‘Thoughts, Poems and Songs’ on Sunday December 7, starting at 7.30pm.

The Oscar-winning actress will again be joined by her actress daughter-in-law Jennifer Wiltsie and guitarist Mike Outram who tours, plays and records internationally as well as being a professor at Trinity College of Music.

The two previous shows raised thousands of pounds for the charity co-founded by Shirley Firth, mother of fellow Oscar-winner Colin Firth.

Mrs Firth, who lives in Winchester, invited Vanessa to perform after they met in London at a theatrical event organised by her son in aid of human rights causes.

Mrs Firth said: “She is a friend of my son, Colin.”

She added: “Vanessa was so enthusiastic and I think she was very moved after talking to a couple of women we had supported. You can’t help but be moved by their stories. They have been through so much.”

Mrs Firth said she was “absolutely delighted” the internationally-acclaimed actress had volunteered for a third one-night show and once again involved her family.
