A POPULAR television series starring Hollywood A-lister Benedict Cumberbatch is filming in Winchester’s Great Hall.
The concluding series of BBC’s The Hollow Crown, subtitled The War of the Roses, will be aired in 2016.
The Great Hall will be closed to the public until December 10 during filming. Much of Castle Avenue outside the historic building is now behind barriers.
Earlier this year Mr Cumberbatch was confirmed for the role of Richard III. Dame Judi Dench also stars.
It was unclear whether Mr Cumberbatch or Dame Judi will be filming in Winchester.
The Chronicle contacted the PR agency for the production company but had received no response.
