PROPOSALS to build housing for the elderly on a Winchester city centre car park have been submitted to planning chiefs.
It would see a two, three and four storey Extra Care Scheme built on the open air car park in Chesil Street.
There would be 52 units, with associated communal facilities, and a respite day care centre, all set within landscaped grounds.
The city council says there is growing need for such accommodation with a 25 per cent increase in the number of people aged 85 since 2001.

The scheme has proved unpopular with nearby residents, who are unhappy at the loss of parking, but the council says the nearby Chesil mutli-storey is under used.
A target decision date has been set for February 13, 2015.
