A FORMER Winchester mayor has quit the Liberal Democrats – less than 24 hours after the party’s national conference in Glasgow.
Cllr Sue Nelmes went independent yesterday, in a move that one councillor has branded “disappointing”.
She served as Mayor of Winchester from 2006-2007, and recently spoke out against police not enforcing 20mph speed limits in the city, introduced by Hampshire County Council in August.
Fellow Lib Dem, Cllr Richard Izard, said he is disappointed.
“I’m a past mayor and I am disappointed that a past mayor has decided to jump ship, although I don’t know the circumstances behind it.”
He said city councillors were informed yesterday (OCT 8).
Group leader Cllr Kelsie Learney, and Cllr Sue Nelmes were unavailable for comment.
