JOHN Robson is leaving Blackfield & Langley in capable hands for tomorrow’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie at home to Western Premier outfit Willand Rovers.

The Watersiders’ boss can’t make the match due to a prior family commitment, but is confident his experienced assistant Chris Farrell can do the business.

“Chris is as good as gold and he’ll get them up for it,” said Robson.

“It’s a good draw for us. We’re at home and Willand are in the same league as two of the teams we’ve already beaten in the Cup (Bitton and Sherborne Town).”

Midfielder Jake Rowley took a bit of a knock after scoring twice for the Watersiders in Tuesday’s 3-0 Sydenhams Premier win over Follands.

But Blackfield’s chief concern lies in central defence with Joe Byrne sidelined again by a shoulder injury.

Robson has the feelers out to dual-sign a defender and is also eyeing a move for his former Alton Town charge Steve Brown.

Brown started out as a defender but has been playing up top in recent seasons for the likes of Poole Town and Alresford.

The Watersiders, meanwhile, have brought in cover for goalkeeper Gareth Barfoot, signing young former AFC Totton and Totton & Eling stopper Jack Nicholson.
