FOLLAND Sports travel to Blackfield & Langley in the Sydenhams Premier tonight fuelled by their sixth league and cup win on the bounce.

But assistant manager Dave Lewis does not pretend that their last trip to Southampton’s Waterside – Saturday’s 2-1 win at 16th-placed Fawley AFC – was anything less than a “really, really tough game.”

A goal apiece from centre-halves Matt Burt and Callum Brockway kept the run going, but only after Burt’s mistake had invited in Dylan Knight to toe-poke the Oilers into a 26th-minute lead.

Burt atoned with a headed goal from Jake Long’s corner and ex-Sholing reserve defender Callum Brockway followed suit after the break.

That, though, only tells half the story, according to Lewis. He admitted: “I expected us to be strong in the second half, but we weren’t and Fawley hit the post at 1-1 and then twice more after Callum had scored.

“It was really tough for us and you tend to look at yourselves and ask ‘why?’, but sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up and say the other side caused us problems.

“Fawley showed us no respect and got in amongst us.

“They didn’t look like a poor side playing well on the day either. They looked like a good team.

“Speaking to their manager Richie Coxall before the game, he said everyone says how well they’re playing but they’re not getting the results, so we knew what to expect.

“But, by hook or by crook, our players are coming up with the goods. Jamie Barron chipped in with two goals when we weren’t playing well at Verwood and now our two centre-halves have scored against a vibrant Fawley side.

“Is that the hallmark of a good team or an accident waiting to happen?”

Right-back Ryan Fuller is an injury doubt for the Blackfield game and striker Ryan Long has work commitments. Long’s midfielder brother Jake is suspended for Saturday’s big FA Cup second qualifying round tie at home to Frome Town.
