AS part of the 50th birthday celebrations for Winnall Community Centre local artist Andrea Arengo-Jones was commissioned to create flags for the party.
She worked with children from Winnall Primary School with all classes contributing artwork to four of the flags, and with adults from the community and Winnall Art Stars to produce the final two.
The centre was built in 1964 with the help of donations from local people so the theme for the flags was artists, toys and culture of the 1960’s.
Each flag is very distinctive from Warhol Mr. Potato Heads to ‘Minion’ Batman. They are bright colourful and fun.
The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Eileen Berry who officiated at the birthday celebrations said of the flags: “They are exceptional”.
The project was funded by Hampshire County Council.
