THERE was no putting off green-fingered residents this weekend.

As the threat of thunder loomed overhead, the Bishop’s Waltham Gardening Club rallied for the 58th annual show at Jubilee Hall, in Little Shore Lane, on Saturday.

This year saw 586 entries, and categories included flowers, vegetables, children’s section, and even ornate flowers made entirely from sugar.

Janice Romer, show secretary, said: “It’s an important thing for Bishop’s Waltham Gardening Club, but also the local community. The weather has actually been fine – we have had hardly any rain! In terms of growing, the only thing that has been affected is the roses.”

She added: “It’s not necessarily about winning, it’s about taking part, especially for the youngsters.”
