WINCHESTER hospital staff have been celebrating the unveiling of their new and improved car park.

Nurses, doctors and officials gathered in front of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital to launch their revamped car park.

The new open-air car park, which as replaced several outbuildings, has meant the 1868 Butterfield wing is now more visible from the main road.

The works are said to have cost £280,000.

Chief executive Mary Edwards said: “We are very grateful for all the kind donations we receive from patients and their families. People’s generosity towards their local hospital means we can do something extra to improve the services and facilities we offer to patients.

“In this case we have been able to remodel the front entrance of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital to something closer to its former Victorian glory. This has created a more welcoming and more accessible environment for patients and visitors when they arrive at the hospital and includes improved disabled parking and drop off facility closer to our wards.”
