HE has proven he has the magic touch, and now a Winchester performer is set for the bright lights of a Scottish festival.

Fresh off tour, 23-year-old magician Ben Farrar is now destined for the stage at Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the fourth time.

It runs throughout August, and the Compton entertainer who goes by the stage name of Ben Hart, will be performing his new show The Vanishing Boy daily.

A former Kings’ School and Peter Symonds College student, he won Young Magician of the Year at the age of 16 in 2007, and was granted full membership to The Magic Circle when he turned 18.

He since won the Associate of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star award – the highest attainable by examination.

The Outsider Tour 2014 ran from April 12 until July 4, taking him across the country, including a date in Southampton at the Hanger Farm Arts Centre, as well as Manchester, London’s Soho Theatre and two shows in Geneva, Switzerland.

It was directed by the mastermind behind Derren Brown’s impactful programmes, award-winner Anthony Owen, with the spectacle interwoven with a biographical narrative that reveals the performer’s lifelong feelings of detachment.

Ben has also appeared on two BBC One programmes, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and The Dare.

Despite his great success he appears to remain humble and surprised by where he chosen career has taken him.

“The reality is I’m terrified,” he said. “It’s always really scary putting together new shows. This time of year for me is always really scary trying to write new material.”

To top it off, he is also preparing for the release of his latest TV appearance – BBC Three’s Killer Magic, where five magicians compete against each other in a series of tasks.

They are all hoping to avoid the killer trick – a notorious illusion or magic trick that has jeopardised the lives of those who have tried to perform it throughout history.

The series of seven will air in September, and started off the back of a one-off episode in April.
