A WINCHESTER primary school has appointed a new headteacher for the first time in 12 years.

Current Assistant Head at St Bede C of E Primary School, Sarah Duck, will succeed Louise Fitzpatrick who is stepping down after 12 years as headteacher.

Last year the school was judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors, and Mrs Duck said she is keen to maintain high standards when she starts in January.

“I’m really excited to be appointed the headteacher of St Bede,” she said. “It’s a wonderful school and a great opportunity. I am particularly looking forward to working with parents, staff, governors and pupils to build on the school’s strengths and achievements, while seeking opportunities to keep moving forward.”

Chair of governors, Dominic Hiscock, said: “Sarah has been a vital part of the senior leadership team at St Bede over the last four years and has a track record of excellence. She is a fantastic appointment and will be a brilliant head teacher. She is a dynamic and inspirational leader who has a wonderful vision for the future of the school and our children.”

Mr Hiscock also paid tribute to Ms Fitzpatrick.
