IT would have left any Ferraris, Hummers or tractors standing. When it comes to trumping your mates at Prom Callum Hall wins easily.

He arrived at the Perins School event on Friday evening in a Robinson R44 helicopter, courtesy of his grandfather.

Callum, 16 last Saturday, had suggested it would be a good idea especially as he wants to be a commercial pilot.

His granddad Chris Thompson, a pilot, made the arrangements and the craft made the short nine-minute flight from near Callum’s home in West Tisted near Alresford to the Botleigh Grange Hotel.

Callum said: “It was amazing. It was really, really thrilling, the sensation of taking off vertically.

“I just wanted to do something different. You hear of people going in supercars. One or two people thought I was being a snob but lots of people asked me questions about it and lots have been pulling my leg.”

Mr Thompson said: “Callum flies with me all the time. All the kids try to outdo each other so I asked a friend, Peter Waldron, a professional pilot, to do it. It took a bit of arranging and the hotel charged £125.”
