LEGENDARY archaeologist Martin Biddle is leading a walking tour of Winchester later this month.

Prof Biddle will show the sites that he excavated between 1961-71, among the most complete digs of a city anywhere in the world.

The tour has been organised by the Winchester Excavations Committee which is preparing books presenting the findings of the digs.

The meeting point is outside Winchester Great Hall on Saturday July 19, at 2pm.

It will move to the Cathedral grounds and then onto Wolvesey Palace. Booking is required; go to winchesterstudies.org.uk for details or call 01865 559017.

The tour is part of the nationwide Festival of Archaeology 2014.
