THERE was cause for triple celebrations at a Winchester special school this week, as they opened new facilities.

Osborne School, in Andover Road, launched their new cafe on Monday (June 24) to aid vocational learning for its 138 pupils.

With the help of pupil Max Andrew, 12, it has been named Clafe – a class in a cafe, and with the help of artist Michelle Buhl-Neilson the pupils put together a mural for the wall.

It is hoped the produce grown in the horticultural centre can be used in the cafe.

The launch coincided with Sports Day which included new-age curling, seated volleyball, obstacle course, golf and traditional races, and saw 60 families attend.

Friends of Osborne School have been raising money for a new classroom, which was also opened on Monday.

Headteacher Sonia O’Donnell said it was the perfect time for a triple celebration.

“It was a really lovely day and an ideal opportunity to focus on what we do here,” she said. “The Friends of Osborne School were here helping in the cafe and we opened the outdoor classroom that the friends have raised funds for. Parents came for Sports Day and had picnics on the field with pupils, and because we had an audience we took the chance to open the two facilities.”
