A WINCHESTER composer has appeared on a BBC Radio 4 programme.

David Lol Perry featured on TV historian Dr Janina Ramirez’s programme Melencolia, alongside internationally-acclaimed composer Sir Harrison Birtwistle.

It aired yesterday (May 26) at 4pm, featuring an interview with Mr Lol Perry and two pieces, the title track and Unamed (Track 6) from his first album Han.

In the programme Dr Ramirez celebrated the 500 year anniversary of Durer’s Melencolia 1 and met two composers who have been influenced by its portrayal of loneliness and depression. Mr Lol Perry said: “It was an honour to be invited to contribute on a subject that surrounds my heart and to partner with the BBC to share my music.

“My album is named Han, a North Korean word, a dull lingering ache in the soul, imbued with resignation and bitter acceptance. Through my music, I try to reach up through it. This was my starting point for ten pieces of music dedicated to this better place.”
