A WINCHESTER school is among two in the UK to receive prestigious European recognition.

Winchester College, on College Street, has been selected by a European jury as an outstanding example of the European Union’s eTwinning programme.

The scheme encourages students to develop creative projects explaining their local culture with students from other schools in Europe.

Winchester College was judged to have exceptional projects, alongside Mid Calder Primary School in Scotland, and David Ceiriog-Hughes, European Coordinator and head of German, was invited to a ceremony in Brussels to collect their prize.

He said: “Winning the French language eTwinning European prize justifies all the time and effort put in by my pupils and the five teams, who participated in the project.

“It shows that over the course of a school year, pupils were able to improve their ICT skills and use a foreign language to produce an online book of real worth.”
