A RARE opportunity has arisen to hear the Winchester-based Band and Bugles of the Rifles at Winchester Cathedral.
They will be joined by the Luard Trio, a group of classically trained singers, in celebrating British music from the likes William Walton, Edward Gregson, Karl Jenkins, and Philip Sparke at a concert on Saturday, April 26 at 7.30pm.
The occasion will raise funds for the Friends’ Windows Appeal.
The appeal aims to raise £800,000 towards the conservation of the medieval glass in the Presbytery of the Cathedral, which needs urgent work to ensure it is not lost forever. Since last February, £550,000 has been raised.
Major Lawrence Sale said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the band to perform within the local community and engage with a worthwhile charity.
“The community’s continued support of the armed forces is very much appreciated by not only the Band but the whole Garrison.”
Tickets are available from the cathedral Box Office priced £25, £18 and £10. There is an opportunity to meet the Band and Bugles of the Rifles at a pre-concert reception for £30 (including a top price ticket). Call 01962 857 275 or www.winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
