CHILDREN in Colden Common have celebrated the unveiling of the new community garden with a day of Easter fancy-dress.

Organised by the Colden Common Community Association, the new play area was officially opened by parish council chairman and Winchester City councillor Richard Izard with the help of Parish Hall Trust representative, Sylvia Mould, at a special ceremony last week (April 2).

The new ground, which was little more that a patch of mud in December, has been transformed with an artificial turf, a new shed, a gazebo with a concealed sandpit and a natural wood play area including a slide.

Children frolicked in the garden, enjoying the sunshine, still sporting their Easter bonnets worn earlier during an Easter parade.

The garden was funded by grants from Hampshire County Council and the Colden Common Parish Hall Trust. The balance was met by Colden Common Community Association using funds raised from last year’s Big Summer Raffle.
