AHEAD of their recording for BBC Radio 2, The Waynflete Singers will be performing at Winchester Cathedral.

Supported by first class solo singers and the English Chamber Orchestra, the choir will perform Mozart & Haydn’s finest music at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 22.

It will be the last opportunity to hear Hampshire’s leading non-professional choir before they record BBC Radio 2’s annual Good Friday broadcast At the Foot of the Cross, which will be heard by millions.

The audience of Saturday’s performance are in for a musical treat, with the programme featuring two of Mozart’s greatest pieces.

His final work, Requiem, includes the famous Dies Irae and Lacrimonsa movements, and will feature alongside the instantly recognisable Symphony number 40 in G Minor, and Haydn’s Te Duem – a lively choral piece which will complete the programme and leave the audience in no doubt of spring’s arrival.

The evening also features a hand-picked selection of four leading young solo singers – soprano Elin Pritchard, who was described as a "vocal standout" by The Guardian, mezzo-soprano Rose Aldridge, the tenor Luis Gomes who was reviewed as "outstanding" by the Evening Standard, and the bass Barnaby Rea.

Tickets range from £12-27, with a 50 per cent discount for students, and are available from the box office on 01962 857275 or online at winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
