PUPILS at a Winchester school will perform as part of an award-winning dance theatre company’s first ever UK tour.

Around 20 pupils from St Bede Church of England Primary School choir will set foot on stage at the Theatre Royal in Winchester on March 25, as part of Junk Ensemble’s production of The Falling Song.

Set up in 2004 by identical twins Megan and Jessica Kennedy, the Irish company has a commitment to creating brave and imaginative work, and were listed as a Sunday Times Highlight in 2011. The choir, which is run by parent James McConnachie and teacher Rebecca Tiley, will sing three original songs specifically written for the hour long show, as well as perform alongside the professional dancers.

Sarah Trist, producer, said the company is thrilled to work alongside children from St Bede.

She said: “It not only adds an extra dimension to the performance, but it gives the choir an amazing opportunity to showcase their talent and work with performers from another discipline, in this case dance, in a way which encourages co-operation and a range of performance skills.”

The Falling Song is about the nature of flying and falling, and is an exhilarating exploration of these concepts.

Megan Kennedy said: “The children have worked really hard and we are confident that they will do an amazing job on the night.”
