Too much water is not usually a problem at a swimming event.

But the Winchester Rotary Swimathon has been postponed because of flooding at the venue.

It was due to have been held at Winchester College on February 22 but the pump room at the college swimming pool is under water and may be damaged.

The Rotary has told teams taking part: “As we are all aware much of the south is suffering from the weather and Winchester is no different. I am sorry to inform you that we will have to postpone the Swimathon due to flooding at Winchester College which has affected the pump room and possibly damaged equipment.

“We are committed to the Swimathon going ahead and will be negotiating for a new date as soon as possible so that your charities can benefit from your effort.

"In the meantime we suggest that you continue to fundraise, and train to complete those extra lengths, and we will keep you informed and up to date with news as soon as we have it.”
