RESIDENTS across Hampshire are being encouraged to shop around.
This week is Big Energy Saving Week, and Hampshire County Council wants people to sign up to Switch Hampshire and see if they can save money on their energy bills.
Run in partnership with other local authorities, the project aims to take the hassle out of switching energy provider.
The county’s executive member for income and capital resources, Cllr Mel Kendal, said: “I would encourage anyone who has not switched in the past, or who is just baffled by the whole energy market, to join up and let Switch Hampshire take the hassle out of trying to find a cheaper tariff and switching for them.
“I think some people will be very surprised how much money can be saved.”
So far 1500 people have registered and the average saving for residents on the least scheme was £120.
Organisers say that if no savings can be found, there is no pressure or commitment to switch.
The scheme is open to everyone who uses gas or electricity, including those on pre-payment meters.
People can register free with the Switch Hampshire scheme online at: www.hants.gov.uk/switch or by calling 01962 846828 before February 17.
