WINCHESTER University has partnered with a national charity to help their students get more involved with volunteer work.

The charity, Student Hubs, works with a network of nine UK universities that aim to support students to take part in community work and international volunteering.

Three separate activities, which start in January, hope to help students in three separate areas. ‘Schools Plus’ aims to better unite student tutors with local school children; ‘Impact International’ offers overseas volunteering placements and ‘Social Impact Careers’ is a programme aimed at introducing students to professionals in their chosen careers.

Executive director of Student Hubs, Sara Fernandez, said: “These three streams empower students to have a positive impact on the community here in Winchester and overseas. Students gain an insight into how they can shape a better world as part of their careers.”

Professor Elizabeth Stuart, deputy vice-chancellor added: “The University is committed to enhancing the employability of its students and increasing their involvement in social action in the UK and overseas.

“We are therefore delighted to see the establishment of a Hub here. It will bring some wonderful opportunities to our students.”
