AN ARTIST from Alresford has had his work displayed at a London gallery.
Nic Joly, based in West Street, created a collection of tongue-in-cheek miniature sculptures for the Castle Fine Art gallery in Mayfair after partnering with a new publisher, Washington Green Fine Art.
His work, entitled One Day I’ll Be Big, tries to depict life’s trials and tribulations though Mr Joly initially created the unique tiny devils to amuse his children by hiding them in the house.
“I make all my miniature sculptures by hand and without a magnifying glass,” he said. “I don’t want them to be perfect because that isn’t what life’s about.
“My fascination with creating small sculptures inspired by the theatre of life has grown into an absolute obsession for me, no area of life is safe!
“It’s great being able to share my work at this exhibition. With all my sculptors, I like it to feel that you’re peering into a stranger’s life and evoke an emotion.”
Before becoming a professional artist, Mr Joly, cousin to comedian Dom Joly, worked as a theatre set creator and furniture maker.
