WINCHESTER civic chiefs were this morning discussing a revamp of their car parking strategy.
There have been 299 responses to a consultation over new policy, being discussed by the city council Cabinet.
A council report speaks of fewer but bigger car parks and said there was a “need to ensure that enough car parking spaces to meet the aim and objectives of the strategy are provided in the right place.”
But green campaigners say the strategy could scupper the 20-year policy of minimising traffic entering the city centre.
The Chesil Street open air car park and the Cattle Market car park have both been suggested for redevelopment.
