THE Bishop of Winchester has announced a new senior appointment at the cathedral.

The Rt Revd Tim Dakin confirmed yesterday (October 2) that Revd Sue Wallace is to be the new Canon Precentor and Sacrist of Winchester Cathedral.

Revd Wallace will take responsibility for the planning and direction of daily cathedral worship, liturgy, music, and other services.

She said: “I'm absolutely delighted to be coming to Winchester. Cathedrals have an amazing ability to connect people to the sacred and I have felt a deep calling to the Cathedral Precentor role for a long time. “

The Dean of Winchester Cathedral, The Very Revd James Atwell, said: “Susan Wallace will bring many qualities to the task of leadership and direction from her experience both at York Minster and at Leeds Minster. I am sure she will quickly be made to feel at home in the cathedral community.”

The Revd Wallace is said to be a talented musician, composer and artist, her has developed a reputation for creating engaging programmes of worship, such as the use of café-style Eucharists, discussion and craft sessions and multimedia Evensongs.

She succeeds the Reverend Canon Michael St John-Channell who retired this year, having served as Precentor and Sacrist at the cathedral since 2006.
