HAMPSHIRE council chiefs have doubled cash support for budding sports stars in the run-up to the Rio Olympics in 2016.
County recreation and heritage chief Cllr Keith Chapman yesterday (Wednesday Sept 25) approved spending an extra £46,100 on a talented athletes scheme for the next three years.
The cash is spent on individual grants worth up to £430 plus other support.
Some £10,000 will be earmarked to develop athletes’ public speaking skills to help them inspire children to achieve their goals.
The council has also negotiated other support, including free annual leisure centre membership, bus passes and fast-track physiotherapy services.
