PARISH councillors in Bishop’s Waltham have given the green light for a “thank you party”.

On Tuesday (September 9) they approved a budget of £700 to thank residents for their ongoing contribution to the Bishop’s Waltham Development Plan.

The 20-year plan will play a role in shaping how the parish will look in the future, including where 500 new homes will go.

Since January more than 40 residents have worked on it and a serious of public consultation initiatives, spearheaded by Cllr Robert Shields, have seen even more parishioners share their time and experience.

“It’s the least we can do. We have run this development plan on peanuts, frankly. We have a budget of £5,000 which we have hardly touched,” Cllr Shields said.

Councillors said a similar party was held to thank the people of Bishop’s Waltham for their work on a previous ‘market town health check’.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of allocating the cash, which organisers estimate would see about £10 a head spent on food and drink for 50 attendees, with a further £200 earmarked for contingencies.

The event is slated for the evening of Friday, October 11, at the Priory Park Clubhouse.
