AN internationally renowned clothes retailer is heading for Romsey’s main shopping area.

Fat Face is opening a store at the former Stead and Simpson shoe shop at 20 The Hundred and the company has submitted several applications to the borough council relating to proposed alterations to the Grade II listed building. These include removing the double front glass doors in the central area of the building’s frontage and installing a new single door on the left side of the premises.

Box of Frogs Ltd, which is handling the planning application for Fat Face, said in a statement accompanying the proposals: “Fat Face propose cosmetic works to the ground floor for the sales area with the rear and first floor to be utilised for storage facilities and staff amenities.

“The shopfront is to be retained and extended to provide a larger window for maximum use of natural light and the shopfront will be decorated in a classic dark grey with the proposed entrance door decorated to match. In addition, there will be a proposed hanging sign with the existing windows to be decorated in classic dark grey. “

Fat Face was founded in 1988 and has five stores in Hampshire including Winchester and Southampton.
