COUNCILLORS in Bishop’s Waltham will move to reallocate cash awarded under the controversial planning agreement for a Sainsbury’s superstore.

Under a ‘sweetener’ arrangement struck when securing permission, Sainsbury’s agreed a total of £55,000 for nature trail improvements and the Bishop’s Waltham to Botley cycle path.

But council bosses agreed the nature trail now requires little funding and that they should put in a formal request for the agreement to be changed.

They prefer that £10,000 goes towards nature trail improvements and £45,000 to the cycle trail towards Botley, rather than £35,00 to the nature trail and £20,000 to the cycle path.

Cllr Robert Shields said he had an informal agreement from the interested parties, including Hampshire County Council, and that providing Sainsbury’s are in agreement, the changes “should be a formality.”
