Hampshire Cup, Gosport 15, Winchester 10.

Winchester Colts have had a second unhappy visit to the south coast on a wet and windy day where they were eventually blown away by a more determined Gosport team.

An encouraging start saw Winchester take possession and played good lineout ball wide, a miss pass on the inside centre, quick hands and Nobby Smith had an easy run in to touchdown. Nathan White's conversion attempt failed to hit the mark, indeed nobody kicked successfully in these conditions.

Winchester proceeded to camp in the Gosport half, applied consistent pressure and looked to be in control.

The wind however played its part and a line out ball fell into Gosport hands; their forwards drove until the flanker peeled off on the blind side to equal the scores.

Winchester replied immediately from the restart applying pressure with a long kick back upfield. Gosport infringed and a quickly taken penalty saw Winchester's Ollie Taylor take them back into the lead. Taylor had a good game, showing determination that seemed to be lacking elsewhere; neverthless Winchester were comfortably in control at half time.

Gosport played a controlled game, used the wind and scored twice from consistent forward pressure Pressure on the Winchester forwards led to poor decision making, leading to panic clearance kicks and passes that played straight into their opponent's hands.

They were not short of possession but an inability to get the ball out wide left them struggling, confused and eventually demoralised.
