Sydenhams Wessex League - Division 2 - Otterbourne 2, Overton Utd 1.

Overton provided the opposition when Otterbourne last played a league game before the monsoon season began. On that occasion the men from North Hampshire triumphed but this time Otters came from behind to turn the tables.

Overton were desperately unlucky to leave with nothing having been kept at bay by some inspired goalkeeping. Mike Broach has had few first team opportunities but he quite literally grabbed this one with both hands.

The visitors made a good start and were unlucky to be denied a penalty in the early minutes when a trip was ruled to be outside the area when some felt otherwise. As Otterbourne hit back Gareth Mead broke from midfield and delivered a perfect pass to Glen Lickman whose shot was saved at full stretch by Overton keeper Glen Robertson. Broach did likewise to deny Steve Green and Green then swung in a corner which Dan Trump headed on to the bar.

Trump tested Broach in the twenty-eighth minute and when Green played the resulting corner back in Trump pounced with a shot which went in off a defender. As the hosts looked for immediate retribution both Tim Jones and Chris Knight rattled shots inches wide while, at the other end, a long range effort from Rob Lee came equally close.

Broach did well to block a header from Ross Soper Dyer one minute into the second half then, as Otterbourne countered, Steve Trott swept the ball stylishly into goal following good work from Knight.

Robertson made a good save with his legs as Dan Pervin cut inside to allow himself room for a shot then a blockbuster from Adam Chambers was turned away for a corner by Broach. Soper Dyer delivered a lob which passed uncomfortably close to goal then the same player played Trump in only for Broach to save bravely at his feet.

Nine minutes from time Jones curled a free kick from the edge of the penalty area which Andy Foster buried with a bullet of a header. Overton attacked with renewed vigour but hero of the hour Broach made a wonderful reflex save when Soper Dyer burst through and looked certain to score.
