The Joiners in Southampton was recently host to Winchester favourites The Bullycats and they rocked the place as usual and showed off two new songs.

Also in the line up were three piece metal band Inept, and Chichester based indie band Sallyforth.

Inept took to the stage first. There was no shortage of volume, but their cohesion was patchy and their play list did not have much diversity.

However, there were appreciative nods from the crowd and the band seemed to have mastered their instruments well.

The Bullycats were up mid-set and they brought with them their amusing banter and limitless energy.

Steve Petty, lead singer, and lead guitarist, Andrew "Steeny" Steen fed off each other and their enthusiasm and love of playing had a contagious effect throughout the rest of the band and the audience.

Their good, honest, catchy rock songs left no one standing still.

The performance was seamless and as well as their older stuff, new songs Hold Me Down and Empire Of The Sun went down well.

Headlining act Sallyforth had a hard act to follow after the Bullycats but they put on a good show.

Their name, meaning to embark energetically, was not reflected in their austere, Franz Ferdinandesque attire, but their music was fresh and the young quartet could have a bright future if fortune is on their side. Louise Glyde
